A software is a set of many instructions which are made to perform a particular task. Computer hardware can be used only by using the software. Different software are made for different tasks like if you have to do painting related work. If you want to work then you will use paint software and you will use microsoft word to write letters.

1. We can only see and act on the software but cannot feel it by touching it.
2. Software is created to do the tasks in our life through computer easily, quickly and without any mistake.
3. Software is made keeping in mind the need of the user in big software companies.
4. Just as the human body is useless without the brain, in the same way there is no existence of a computer without software.
5. For example, we use keyboard, mouse, printer, Internet etc. Software is also required to run all these.

1.System Software
System software is software that manages and controls computer hardware. Application software can work in the computer only when the system software is already available in the computer.
There are many types of System Software like-
(i).Operating System (Operating System) (ii) .Device Driver (Device Driver) (iii). Utility Software
(i)..Operating System
Operating system is like a link (interface) between the user and the computer hardware, that is, the operating system gives the user such an interface, with the help of which we can easily work on the computer. To do anything in the computer. It is necessary to have Operating System Software. Examples of Operating System:- LINUX (Linux), Microsoft Windows (WINDOW XP, WINDOWS 7, WINDOW 8 etc.)
ii.Device Driver
Device drivers are system software. These are computer programs that operate or control a particular type of device. For example, in order to connect devices like printers, speakers, projectors, webcams, etc. with the computer, the driver (software) related to that device has to be inserted in the computer through which the device is controlled.
(iii). Utility Software
System utility software are computer programs that help a computer run smoothly by servicing the operating system and hardware. These software keep working on its own in the background of the computer. System utility software manages and controls computer memory, resources, as well as protects the computer from viruses so that the computer can work without interruption.
The following are examples of some system utility software:-
(a). Disk Cleaner( Disk Cleaner) :-
Disk Cleaner is a system utility software that finds and deletes those files in your computer which are of no use and these files occupy unnecessary space in the computer, due to which your computer starts working slow.
(b).Disk Compressor(Disk Compressor) :-
Disk Compressor is also a system utility software that works by compressing or compressing the available data on the hard disk so that more and more data can be stored in the hard disk.
